Square Enix nearly released Final Fantasy XVI on two Blu-Ray discs for PS5, according to producer Naoki Yoshida. The game's massive size and detailed content initially made single-disc storage impossible.

Key Details

The development team successfully optimized the game to fit on one disc just six months before launch. A day-one patch of approximately 300 MB will be required for bug fixes. The digital version requires about 90 GB of storage.

Yoshida explained that fitting everything onto a single disc was challenging, noting the team had prepared contingency plans for a dual-disc release to reduce manufacturing costs and eliminate additional downloads for consumers.
